General Motors is not having a good time these days. It appears that the product line, a whole lot of product line, is under recall. General Motors Corporation took a big gamble on Takata Corporation air bags and lost.
Yesterday, Monday November 23, 2020 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall order for over seven million vehicles. GM had continued to use certain Takata air bags claiming that it’s studies had shown that these airbags had a different inflation device and didn’t need to be replaced. The Recall Order appears to be a flat rejection of GM’s position.
This recall centers on a defect in these airbags that causes the bags to explode, spraying shrapnel through the vehicle. In addition to the deaths, other drivers or passengers have been blinded or maimed.

In a Press Release from General Motors and Chevrolet I learned that the Companies have decided to voluntarily recall select 2017-2019 model-year Chevrolet Bolt EVs with high voltage batteries produced at LG Chem’s Ochang, Korea facility that may pose a serious risk of fire when charged to full, or very close to full, capacity. See also the press release from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Company warns: DO NOT PARK THIS MODEL CAR IN YOUR GARAGE OR OTHER ENCLOSED SHELTER.
